British Championships Success
On 29th October 2022 T-UK held their British Championships in the Sky Blue Conexion in Coventry.
Unfortunately, the date of the tournament was changed to the half term week which drastically changed the amount of entries from T-UK Leeds. One student who did travel down to compete was Oleksandr.
considering the change of date, the event was still busy and with more than enough officials, we were able to make a prompt start with Emma overseeing events on square 1, the square Oleks was later to compete on.
The events of the day started with Pee Wee student, followed by junior and adult s, with veteran students coming on last. As such, Oleks had to wait some considerable time before he was able to get going.
The time eventually came in the early afternoon and Oleks’ category was brought on to Emma’s square. First up for Oleks was patterns. Despite a good effort, Oleks did not make it through to the final stages.
Free sparring was however a different matter. To start with, T-UK Leeds didn’t get any luck with Oleks being one of only two students who didn’t get a bye. Oleks performed really well and managed to get all the wat to the final and through some bruising rounds, as is the always the case for veteran males.
With a little contact management from yours truly Oleks had a really good round in the final and we are delighted to say that we came away with the gold medal.
All the seniors at T-UK Leeds are very proud and pleased for Oleks and we hope his success will motivate other students to have a go in some of the tournaments next year.
I honestly think the standards we have give the students very little to worry about as we always seem to do well in these well controlled events.
Thanks to Emma for coming down to help as an official, which is thankless task but of course main thanks and congratulations go to Oleksandr. Good job.
